XSPF Open Source Media Player

June 3rd, 2007 by Shaun

For anyone struggling to find a good online media player to stream their MP3s online (MySpace, Blogs ETC.) might I suggest they give this one a try. XSPF is an open source XML based format that allows you to share your digital media files. XSPF is one of the better players I have tried and believe me when I say I’ve tried more then I care to count.

All you need is some hosting space for your media and a little HTML knowledge to get it up and running. myDataBus is a good place for storage if you lack a domain although it’s NOT a free service. Sites like ProjectPlaylist just flat out suck and while StreamingKiwi is one of several sites that have adopted the XSPF format it gets hacked daily, has zero support and is unreliable at best.

I suggest trying to host it yourself and don’t panic if you lack the appropiate HTML skills. There are plenty of helpful faqs floating around on various sites to help you out. In other words assuming you can read you can do this. For the sake of my sanity and pure laziness I neglected to add any specific links …HeH.

Just do what everyone else does when all else fails ….Google it.

You can click HERE or visit the obligatory MySpace page for a working example. Enjoy.
